BLLAHWU Hosts Heritage Night

Popular traditional music stars Ditiro “DT” Leero and MmaAusi, and many other artists, are scheduled to set the event alight.

The event, which will be held under the theme ‘Cultural influence on the struggle’ is a forum where there will be a display of culture diversity of the trade union movement.

According to union’s secretary general Ketlhalefile Motshegwa, the heritage night provides an opportunity for them to exhibit diversity of culture in the country including the culture of trade union movement in an endeavour to display the inherent infusion of culture and the struggle for social justice and human rights.

Motshegwa said that trade unions have a role in preserving culture, particularly the African one.

“Africans must take responsibility to preserve their own identity through nurturing of their culture. As a labour movement we are not only pursuing the struggle of working class, we are also pursuing the Pan African struggle to ensure the development of Africa,” he said.

He said that for Africa to develop, there must be proper consciousness, which could only be attained through nurturing African identity and finding solutions to problems facing Africans. He stated that culture has played a pivotal role in various aspects of the workers struggle through songs.

“The event will surely reveal and enhance the position of truly BLLAHWU is the cradle of progressive labour politics, the torch bearer of class consciousness and broader revolutionary undertakings.  We want to underscore the importance of fusion of culture of revolutionary struggle for justice,” he added.

Moreover, Motshegwa said amongst others, performances will be provided by Bamalete Ditlhaka Traditional group, poetry and reciting of cultural stories. Kgosi Mosadi Seboko of Balete will be the guest speaker on the night.

“The event is expected to be characterised by fireworks from performances by the local artists.

There will also be cultural dishes on offer in an attempt to underscore the healthiness and good taste of the local cuisine,” he said.

DT as he is affectionately known has been a frequent feature in many cultural activities lately since his release from prison two years ago.

The Magana mokgwa hitmaker and South African based MmaAusi have both shown that they were a hit with culture enthusiasts, as they possess command of Setswana.
