However, political foes both within the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) and the opposition viewed these as a strategy by Mabaila to lure voters to his corner.

A day after being slapped with a five-year suspension by his party, Mabaila held another such event this weekend, and it was graced by former president Ian Khama.

The area Member of Parliament, Sedirwa Kgoroba boycotted the previous events. But on Saturday, it was a different script as Kgoroba attended Mabaila Foundation Gospel Fete. The event was organised to pray for rain, against social ills and for the leadership of the country as per Mabaila’s remarks. But Kgoroba used his opportunity to speak to take a jab at Mabaila who was in his first 24 hours of having been slapped with a five-year suspension by the BDP.

“We have heard the tragic news that you have been suspended from your party. Those things do happen. It is an opportunity for you to prove wrong those who claimed you have been doing all these good deeds eyeing something,” Kgoroba said.

“You should prove them wrong and continue. Even if you can stand for elections anywhere and lose, continue helping our people and they might consider to vote you in 2024.”

Mabaila said the event was meant to pray for rain and passion killings in the country.

“This event is not meant for anything else but prayer. Let’s pray for the leadership of this country and other evil things that are happening in the country. I don’t want the event to be turned to be political. God is the answer to everything that happens to our lives,” Mabaila said.

Pastor Joel Keitumele asked the church members and pastors who had attended the event to pray for Mabaila and his foundation to keep on helping people.

“God has sent Mabaila for a purpose to work for people and develop their life. Let’s pray for this foundation to become big so that lot of people could benefit from it,” Keitumele said.
