Zebras refuse to train over allowances

The national team went into camp last night as it prepares for crucial back-to-back Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Burkina Faso.

Sources said the players had demanded to be paid, and wanted to meet BFA officials before training.

'They wanted outstanding allowances from the recent Zimbabwe and Namibia games. They sought a meeting with the BFA, where they wanted answers,' the source said.

Zebras coach, David Bright referred questions regarding the team's failure to train, to the BFA spokesperson, Tumo Mpatane.

Mpatane confirmed a meeting between the BFA and the players this morning, but refused to divulge contents.

'We are engaged with the players, but I cannot divulge the contents of the meeting. It was a productive meeting in terms of preparations for the Burkina Faso game,' he said.

The team was expected to train later in the afternoon.

Meanwhile, Bright refused to comment on the recent incident in which midfielder, Lebogang Ditsele was dropped from the national team due to indiscipline.

The BFA wrote to Ditsele's club, Jwaneng Galaxy, informing them that the player had been dropped after sneaking in alcohol, and was seen in the company of females during the recent camp in preparation for the Namibia game.

Bright said he will address the issue at a press briefing before the team departs for Burkina Faso. The Zebras are in dire need of a lift, as they are bottom of Group I without a point after two matches.
