Cattle herder charged with killing another with a brick

The accused, Oageng Bothodilwe, is alleged to have murdered Moagi Thapuwe at Depa cattlepost on August 24 in 2013.

He allegedly hit Thapuwe with a brick on the head after they exchanged insults following a short heated argument.

Bothodilwe denied the charge when he appeared before Justice Gaolapelwe Ketlogetswe for commencement of trial.

Under cross-examination from state counsel Gonayaone Ketlhapetswe, the first prosecution witness Matshenye Sokisi stated that during the time that Bothodilwe allegedly murdered Thapuwe, they were drinking a traditional brew.

He added that Bothodilwe and Thapuwe’s argument was sparked by the fact that Thapuwe opened the kraal for cattle to go to graze while Bothodilwe wanted to wean the calves from their mothers the following day.

This according to Sokisi did not go down well with Bothodilwe who then hit Thaphuwe with a brick on the head.

Sokisi said that after Bothodilwe hit Thapuwe with a brick on the head, the deceased fell down motionless on the ground.

He added that Bothodilwe then poured Thapuwe with water in a bid to resuscitate him but he was unresponsive.

Sokisi said that the suspect went to report the matter to their employer who then called the police before Bothodilwe was arrested and charged with murder.

Attorney Mboni Manyothwane represents Bothodilwe. The case continues.
