BDF XI finished with 10 men after Kelepile Ndlovu saw red. Magosi began the match like a house on fire and their efforts were rewarded two minutes into the game as Senatla Molefhe scored from Katlego Keobake’s fine assist.

Chiefs kept applying the pressure but it was Obonye Marope who equalised for Matabele in the 11th following poor defending from Magosi.

BDF XI were now looking more dangerous through attacks led by Kobamelo Kebaikanye and Marope. Marope almost scored his second goal in the 20th minute, but Noah Maposa’s fine save smothered a fine shot.

Matabele’s attacks appeared to be more problematic for the Chiefs’ defence something that resulted in Charles Mutero conceding an own goal in the 21st minute.

BDF XI led 2-1 going into the break. Both teams slowed their play in the second half. Bonolo Phuduhudu produced the first real chance of the second half after 64 minutes through a long range effort, which went inches past Maposa’s post.

In the 68th minute Lesego Galenamotlhale produced a wonderful cross into the 16 yard area and it was Nyamadzawo who responded with a header to score his first goal on debut for Magosi.

Chiefs gaffer, Bongani Mafu thought his side could have won the game but luck was not on their side.

“I decided to change tactics in the second half and play short balls as they were beating us through long balls and that worked in our favour as we managed to equalise,” Mafu said.

He added that he was happy to have two reliable forwards (Nyamadzawo and Ramatlhakwana) as his team has been failing to score goals in the first round.

BDF XI mentor, Nelson Setshwane decried injuries to key players going to the game. “It’s honestly tough as my team had to change due to injuries to key players. We had chances in the first half but we did not capitalise. My midfield was not up to standard today,” Setshwane said.

He said he was disappointed for not winning the game.
