So far 15 electricity saving streetlights has been vandalised with their batteries missing leaving the lights compromised.

Broadhurst police station commander superintendent Obusitwe Lokae said they have discovered that the thieves are after solar batteries.

“The target is the battery because they have been leaving the solar power behind. The street lights poles have screws at the bottom which the criminals unscrew for them to fall down making it easy for them to remove the batteries easily,” said Lokae.

The theft happens at night with perpetrators suspected to be taking advantage of the darkness. No one has been arrested in relation to the matter but the police vowed to arrest culprits.
