GU ordered to pay Moatlhaping P46,000

Delivering a consent order, yesterday, Justice Tebogo Maruping of Gaborone Industrial Court said the club must pay the former player P46, 000 within three months.
The amount will be paid in instalments of P15, 333.35 starting on November 30. He said failure to pay any of the instalments on time will result in the whole amount, immediately due. The order was a result of a settlement between the two parties following a lengthy dispute over the matter. Moatlhaping was demanding compensation of at least six months after his contract was terminated with a year and a half remaining. Following the dispute, the elders committee which at the time was running the club, negotiated with Moatlhaping to pay him four months salary as well as the outstanding P10, 000 signing-on fee. The amount was to be paid in instalments of P12, 000 for four months, which the player agreed to. Presenting his case before the judge yesterday, Moatlhaping said an agreement had been made but the only thing outstanding was that the initial proposal by the club did not state the date in which the payment will be made.
Representing the club, chairperson, Boitumelo Nsunge however, said he was not aware of such an agreement.
He told the court that the information he received from those who were representing the club at the time was that the two parties had agreed on a payment of the outstanding signing on fee and a one-month notice. Tymon Katlholo who is a member of the elders committee represented the club at the time. Justice Maruping then asked for the club to call Katlholo to court since he was the one who represented Moyagoleele on the matter before. Upon his arrival, he informed the court that their term as the elders committee has since elapsed but added that they handed over the matter to the current executive committee.
Nsunge then asked the court to give them sometime to re-negotiate with the player where they finally agreed on the total amount of P46, 000. Although Moatlhaping was not impressed with the approach of the chairperson and the terms, he was relieved that the matter has finally been settled.
He is currently on the books of Notwane although he is not eligible to play until January. The payment will be made through the registrar of court for recording purposes. Moatlhaping is the latest player to receive his payment from the club after the Ghanaian player, Bismark Appiah pocketed a whooping P400, 000 for unfair dismissal.
