Financial constraints halt women�s league

Speaking to Mmegi Sport yesterday, Moremong said four teams approached the league committee alerting them of their financial situations.
He said upon realising that it was an issue affecting almost all teams in the league, the committee decided to suspend all league activities until further notice.
“Since we do not have a sponsor for our league, the teams are battling with transport and other logistics’ costs.
You might be aware that these are run by individuals using money from their pockets. Four teams came to alert us about their financial problems, but this was not only affecting the four teams but most teams. We then as the league committee decided to stop all the activities,” he said. Moremong further said they do not have a time frame of when the league would resume but said it might be sooner as the committee has requested for assistance from the Botswana Football Association (BFA).
“I really cannot say when the league would resume. We have written to the national women football committee and we are waiting for their response. We are yet to secure a sponsor hence we have depended on funds from the BFA and dig from our own pockets,” he said.
Only five rounds were played with defending champions, Township Rollers sitting at the summit of the log. The league started in October, two months behind schedule as it was postponed twice.
It was supposed to start in August, however, it had to pave way for the country’s golden jubilee celebrations, while the match officials’ payments prompted the second postponement. The local league has been without a sponsor for five years now, since public transport company, AT&T pulled out in 2012.
