Limko caps 455 graduates

Speaking at the university’s 2018 graduation media briefing in Gaborone on Monday, Thebe said the ceremony that was held Thursday will be celebrated under the theme, ‘Changing The World’. She said the graduates enhanced their talents, sharpened their skills and broadened their minds within specialised and globalised ecosystem.
“The words ‘changing the world’ are meant to inspire as well as define the caliber and mindset of our graduating class which is highly skilled, highly adaptive competitive and highly enterprising tech savvy creative thinkers. Limkokwing is pushing the educational transformation envelope and is leading the way as the innovation and creativity hub of Africa, and this is evident through this most globalised cohort of young professionals which is not only from Botswana but also includes 12 students from Congo, Lesotho, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe,” she said.
Thebe said the class of 2018 brings to the industry, government and society, skills in managing new media technology, a problem-solving mindset innovative solutions to issues and an entrepreneurial spirit that will benefit Botswana as it builds its competitiveness following the new global order as they press towards 2036. She said of the 455 students who will be graduating, with 38 presented with awards of excellence, which are meant to recognise the best students who have made special contributions to the university either through their participations in events, competitions, academics and other occasions on and off campus.
Moreover, Limkokwing University will this year be making history by releasing its first batch of the 13 postgraduate Centre Masters in Communications graduates. There will also be nine students from the special needs unit amongst the overall graduates.
“The university is ultra proud of this group of students who persevered through all the challenges they faced with their disabilities with the support of the university and the use of specialised equipment to finally get to the finish line and graduate with a solid tertiary credential. This special group of students were able to learn what their peers were learning through the assistance, care and dedication of our staff, as well as the use of specialised equipment they used to study such as braille user, talking calculators, large font user, computer installed zoom text, sara reader and CCTV and Ruby magnifier just to mention a few,” she said.
For his part, the university’s vice chancellor, Gape Kaboyakgosi said they took pride in being a leading institution in teaching and learning in all types of media related disciplines. He added that they could honestly lay claim in being the leader in the transformation of the media landscape in the country in the last decade or so.
“We are pleased to mention that this year, we have realised a number of milestones through which we seek to strengthen our capacity to enrich the learning experiences of our students. Amongst these is the; successful registration of our Alumna Association with the Registrar of Societies, completion of application process to accede to the National Credit Qualifications Framework, strategy to recognise our links with industry, submission of new learning qualifications under the national Credit Qualifications Framework and others,” he said.
