Three murder violent bar patron

The accused were granted bail on conditions that they sign their own recognisance in the sum of P1,000, provide two sureties who shall each bind themselves in the same amount, report at Kutlwano Police Station every Friday during working hours, do not interfere with state witnesses and attend court as and when required to do so.

The state alleges that Alakanani Mothupi, 26, Goitseone Senyathela, 25, and Johane Papiso, 19, killed Ogomoditse Thibili at Lagondola Bar in November last year. Before magistrate Kaveri Kapeko granted the accused bail, state prosecutor Gasemotho Pitlagano told the court that the investigations officer who was unfortunately not present in court had informed him that he did not object to the accused being granted conditional bail on conditions that will be determined by the court. “I don’t know why the investigations officer is not before court but he did not object to the accused being granted bail,” Pitlagano said.

Following Thibili’s death, some of his relatives reportedly went to the homestead of Senyathela and assaulted his father, which prompted the investigations officer, Rodgers Mbulawa, to visit relatives of Thibili to caution them against taking the law into their own hands. Earlier on, Pitlagano also raised the same issue but said he was constrained to say more since the investigations officer was not before court, as he was the only person in a good position to know if tempers of the deceased’s relatives have cooled off or not.

He also told the court that he did not know the status of police investigations but reiterated that Mbulawa was not against the accused being granted bail. The accused are due in court on January 31 for status report.
