If voted for in the by-election on February 11, Molokwe says he plans to help the youth in the area access government programmes, especially the Youth Development Fund (YDF).  “Most of the youth in our area have not been able to access government programmes. The majority of our youth are roaming the streets,” Molokwe said in an interview yesterday.

“Again, destitutes in our area are not getting the help they need. The social workers are not assessing people. We have more destitutes that need help,” Molokwe said. He also intends to help Village Development Committee (VDC) to raise funds. He said the committee is failing to implement its plans in the ward because of lack of funds.

He continued: “The VDC gets money from the council and the funds are usually not enough. Another reality is that Rasesa depends on Mochudi in all most everything. For example, our clinic and kgotla do not have an ambulance and a vehicle, therefore they rely on vehicles from Mochudi”.

Molokwe said there is need for Rasesa to have streetlights and that is something that he will talk about if voted to council. In addition, Molokwe believes that his village could improve the Matsieng foot print site to be a tourism area.

Molokwe has trained as a pilot, airport operator and air accident investigator. He served in different structures of the BDP including cells, branch and the region and mostly as the secretary.  He is in aviation business.

The Botswana Congress Party (BCP) will be represented by Tshenolo Buisanyang. One of the BCP leaders in that area, Stephen Makhura said they are hopeful that they will win the council seat with the combined forces of the opposition parties.

“If you look at the numbers that the opposition got during the 2014 general elections, the margin becomes slim. Any party stands a chance to win during the by-election because not all people come to vote,” Makhura said.

In the last general elections, the BDP was voted for by 717 people, BCP 396 and the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) 338.  The opposition parties are now cooperating in elections.
