Alongside asset manager, Bakang Seretse, the Judge was a director of Basis Point Capital in 2015 but later resigned when he joined the bench.  The company was reportedly awarded a tender to draft technical, advisory and financial strategy of the petroleum fund for a contract worth P15 million. It is reported that Kebonang was paid a fee of P1, 3 million.

According to the newspaper report, the Auditor General in March 2018 found that the company “had submitted incomplete bid and should have been disqualified”.  On Wednesday, the BURS Commissioner General, Ken Morris denied that BURS officials ever gave an interview to the newspaper concerning the affairs of Kebonang.

“BURS never discussed any taxpayers’ information with third parties as these remain confidential for any taxpayer,” Morris wrote to Kebonang.  Earlier this year ,Kebonang issued summons for P3 million for defamation against the said newspaper. Contacted for comment, Kebonang declined to comment on his lawsuit against the newspaper or the story carried by the paper on the basis that the matter is sub judice.
