The local musician’s I Do single was nominated for the One Africa Award category where he is battling it out with continental heavy weights such as Tekno, Tiwa Savage, Kommanda Obbs, and Patoranking.

“It came as a surprise.  I was not even anticipating that I will get nominated for the Metro FM Music Awards. I am excited this is something big, it shows that there is progress within my work,” Vee Mampeezy said.

The Taku Taku artist said the main reason he was not expecting to be nominated is that the awards are under Metro FM, which is a South African state-owned radio station.

He was quick to note that sealing a deal with Universal Music Group (UMG) played a major role in this development. He said the nominated song I Do has been receiving high rotation on Metro FM and other SABC radio stations.

“The world is for the believers. You must dream,” said Vee Mampeezy as he confessed that the guidance of God led him to where he is. Unfortunately Vee Mampeezy stated that on this category there would be no voting from the public, as it will be handled internally.

The song has been doing impressively well on the international scene, it has been receiving some airplay on music channel Trace Africa.

He noted that having been nominated on the South African award ceremony does not mean he has relocated, “I still live in Botswana. I only stay in South Africa for work related reasons”.

Vee Mampeezy who recently launched his latest album I Do last month said the sales have been doing well since the release.  The musician joins local rapper Veezo, who was once nominated for the Metro Fm Music Awards in 2014.

The 16th Metro FM Music Awards will take place at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli Convention Centre on February 25, 2017.
