REAB ultimately realised registration in May of this year.

The Network of Excellence in Renewable Energy Technologies for Development (NEED) team at BIUST spearheaded the creation of the Renewable Energy Association of Botswana, leading to the registration of the association, according to a release by BIUST communications director Keoagile Rafifing.

The Renewable Energy body (REAB) will be launched and inaugurated at the Thursday workshop as an engine of growth in the development of renewable energy technologies in Botswana and beyond, said the BIUST spokesperson.

The membership of REAB consists of government agencies, institutions, industries, businesses, commercial enterprises and research groups that are developing, researching, manufacturing, selling or maintaining Renewable Energy equipment, services or systems. The membership also includes Non-Governmental Organisations’ advocacy groups and media promoting the use of renewable energy.

Rafifing said REAB’s objectives include   supporting development of cost effective, sustainable renewable energy generation and consumption solutions likely to be adopted in Botswana.  REAB also endeavours to promote consultations, reflections, and deliberations on key issues in the field of renewable energy technologies in Botswana by way of partnerships.

It also aims to present stakeholders with a unique forum for sharing information, analysing the latest developments involving renewable energy technologies and advocating for partnerships and networks both nationally and internationally.
