Murder accused strikes again while on bail

In 2013, Ndaba also allegedly killed Morena Jonas at Japane cattlepost, causing grievous bodily harm to Chandapiwa Bule and Peter Makhaya with multiple stabs in the process.

On Tuesday, inspector Kenneth Edward urged the court to deny Ndaba bail saying he stood accused of committing a similar offence while on bail.

“We pray with the court to deny the accused bail because he is already facing a similar charge of killing one of his relatives. He violated one of his bail conditions of not committing similar offences while on bail and as such, we pray that he be remanded in custody until all his matters are finalised,” said Edward, adding that police investigations into the matter are still continuing.

Edward further told the Chief Magistrate Gaedupe Makgatho that it would  be risky to grant Ndaba bail because after his New Year crime, he drank a poisonous substance that the police suspect is acid, in an apparent suicide bid.

“We suspect that the accused used a sharp object to kill the deceased,” Edward said.

“We are still waiting for the postmortem report to ascertain how the deceased died. We also fear for his safety since the relatives of the deceased are enraged about what happened and may harm him if he is released on bail.”

The prosecution also pleaded with the court to not remand Ndaba at the Gerald Estates prison facility for his safety.

“The deceased’s son is also remanded in custody at the Gerald Estates Prison. The deceased’s son may harm him if they are incarcerated in the same prison”, Edward said.

Makgatho then advised prison officials to take the matter to their superiors and make sure that Ndaba and the deceased’s son are kept at different prisons. Ndaba is due in court on January 31 for status hearing.
