The police commissioner Keabetswe Makgophe said this when launching the Youth Drivers Outreach Programme that was held at Boipuso hall yesterday pleading with young drivers to exercise extra caution whilst driving.

Makgophe warned that being intimate whilst driving has the possibility of diverting driver’s attention something that could lead to unnecessary accidents that could have been avoided.

He said people continue to loss their lives in road-related incidents with road accidents remaining the leading cause of death amongst the youth.

“Avoid divided attention whilst driving. 450 deaths were recorded in 2016 and 268 people amongst that number was the youth at 59.5percent whilst 444 people dead on the road in 2017 with 247 people (at 55.6%) being the youth.

From January to date 342 fatalities have been recorded with 181 being the youth,” Makgophe said.
