Police continue to arrest stock theft suspects and confiscate stolen beasts an indication that stock theft might have become a paying job for perpetrators.
Botswana Police Service’s (BPS) public relations officer, Dipheko Motube said on Wednesday police arrested two men aged 27 and 31 years both of Goo-Thato ward in Sojwe after they were found in possession of 10 suspected stolen cattle, eight of which were calves.
He said one of the suspects is a stealing stock ex-convict who served a prison term between 2010 and 2012.
“The duo was arrested at Setoto cattlepost in the outskirts of Sojwe. Still on Wednesday Kgomodiatshaba police arrested a 27-year-old man of Rantsipe ward after he failed to account for two heifers suspected to be stolen from Kgomodiatshaba Dam in 2017.
The arrests bring to 17 the total number of people who have been arrested since the beginning of the operation in Kweneng, Kgatleng and Central districts on October 13, 2018 in which 27 cattle and four goats have been involved,” Motube said.
