A young man who goes by the name Naisi Boy is adamant that his personalised Kwaito style, which he terms ‘Dramatic Kwaito’ is guaranteed to be a winner with music lovers across board. Born Lesegolamodimo Motlhagodi, he said he has taken a lot of time and put a lot of thought into his music, all because he wanted to come up with a good product.

“I started doing music when I was in secondary school, but at the time I didn’t really have a plan,” he said.

Naisi Boy said he released his first single while he was still a student at Gaborone Senior Secondary School (GSSS) titled Amanekeneke in 2009. He said thereafter he would perform in different events including Odirile ‘Vee’ Sento launches. In 2011, he was invited to be a part of Culture Spears’ Kueletsane tour.

“In 2012 I realised that yes I released a single, but I didn’t have a plan, so I decided to take some time off and do research on the music industry. I met with a number of reputable musicians like Vee and others, to learn from them,” he said.

He said he spent a lot of time getting information and learning the trends of the local music industry.  The young man from Lerala, only went back to the studio in 2015 to work on his 10-track debut album Zero To Hero,

The reason why I titled my first album Zero To Hero is because I started from nothing, but I managed to record my album bit by bit through hard work and perseverance.

“I managed to do it on my own, going to the studio after work,” he said.

He said he worked with different producers in his album who include Dr. Tawanda, Dubblin, and Zolosko, the producer behind Mlesho’s hitsong, Tlhomela.

He said prior to releasing the album, he will release a teaser in the form of a single titled Ga Se Ya Bana, scheduled to be out by end of January.

The full album will be released early April.

Naisi Boy said 70% of the music in the album is his personalised kwaito style, dramatic kwaito, with the other 30% being other genres like hip-hop, house, and Kwaito Kwasa.

He explained that by throwing in other genres in his album, he is not diverting from his true love, which is kwaito. He said he is merely trying to ensure that his album caters for a wider audience with different tastes.

The young man explained that, he calls his music dramatic kwaito because his songs tell a story, adding that his performances are energetic and he acts out the stories on stage.  He said his lyrics have a bit of comedy and true stories.
