Many enter into the business world to sustain their way of living, some to make big bucks out of it and others because of a calling or passion from doing it, and just generally, many get into business to improve their state of life.  One could ask, can one make a living out of plastic cups?  Let’s find out.

Olerato Kgamane is one of the few young entrepreneurs in Botswana who have made it in the entrepreneurial world.

With the determination and commitment to succeed, Kgamane did not wait for his parents or the government to fund him to follow his dreams.

The 21-year-old is engaged in selling promotional branded plastic cups, which are mostly used in big events to serve refreshment drinks - a venture that many had tried and failed shamelessly.

The branded plastic cups are supplied to different events such as; parties, baby showers, bridal showers, chill session events and weddings depending on the client’s requirements.

He explained to Showbiz that he has been supplying cups to events such as Clap Your Hands, Born and Raised and Babina Tholo. He even branded cups for Sky Girls Organisation and celebrities in the likes of Amantle Brown and many more.

“Entrepreneurship is not something that you just wake up and decide to do, it takes time, hard-work, commitment and determination, and just like any other entrepreneur, I am faced with many challenges such as financial constraints,” he explained.

He added that he is self-sponsored, and invested all his personal savings to launch his start-up. Having no sponsors did not stop him from achieving his goals.

“From a very young age, I have always enjoyed being independent, and as a junior I have always sold sweets to save money,” he says.

Currently, he is planning to open a security company, which is mainly intended to help his father who lost his job at BCL mine.

“I am currently working on a proposal, which I can use to get sponsors. I wish to start tendering the business end of February,” he noted.

“The proposal I am working on for the government is going to make an estimated amount of P60,000 every month,” he said.

He concluded on saying that his business has been good and it continues to grow everyday, scooping up to P15,000 in three months.
