The dance ensemble has been hosting dance classes there for quite some time.  They are held every Monday and Wednesday with the Saturday classes being open to everyone.

“We have resumed with the classes.  Its just that people do not show up in numbers and some are not consistent with their attendance, which leads to the classes having few dance students,” the Mophato Dance Theatre, Andre Kola said.

In the dance classes the ensemble teaches different dance genres such as Afro fusion, contemporary, ballet, hip hop and latin.  The dance lessons are facilitated by Kola and other senior dancers within the dance ensemble.

He noted that hosting these dance classes is a way of creating employment for the dancers within the ensemble and also generating income.  “Other reasons for these classes is that they are a form of therapy to our clients be it old or young, the classes are also important to the youth as they keep them away from ill practices.”

Kola noted that through these dance classes they are looking to recruite new talent that would be joining the dance ensemble.

“If people are consistent with attending we will definitely recruit some of them to be part of us.”

Meanwhile, Kola stated that Mophato Dance Theatre is busy working on their new production, which they will stage at this year’s Maitisong Festival.

Last week the dance ensemble hosted dance auditions that saw them recruiting 10 female dancers that will be part of their new production.
