Speaking during an interview with Showbiz recently, the queen who was able to outshine her 13 opponents last December, said she would like to empower and motivate the youth in Mahalapye to become better and responsible members of the society.

“I would like to help the youth of Mahalapye to recognise that they can use their talents to improve their lives.  I believe that every person has a hidden talent. All they have to do is identify and use them in ways that could benefit them,” she said.

Bogman explained that she had observed that most of the youth in Mahalapye were engaged in alcohol and drug abuse.  She said that different factors such as stress and lack of employment contribute to youth resorting to alcohol and drug abuse.

“I want to help the youth realise that drug and alcohol abuse is not the solution to any problem.  Instead it adds more to their problems,” she said.

The queen, who is also a Form Five student at Madiba Senior Secondary School in Mahalapye added that if she would find sponsorship she would like to address lack of employment challenges.  She said she would like to use the skills she acquired at Junior Achievement Botswana (JAB) club with the youth.  She said she would discuss and find ways that would tackle unemployment in the country more especially in Mahalapye.

Her other aspiration during her reign is to do green projects in order to save the climate and to revive her culture.  Bogman explained that most of the youth had forgotten their culture and only a handful showed a little interest.

“I would like to revive Mahalapye culture and make the youth realise how important it is to us and our future children,” she added.

Bogman who has explained her love for numbers said she would like to study finance and statistics after completing her BGCSE.

She added that she always has fun with numbers and as a result would like to have a profession that she would love.  She also explained that she loved the profession as it pays well.

She emphasised that she believed education was everything.  She encouraged her peers, students and pupils to take their education seriously, as it paved a way to a good life.

Furthermore, the beautiful and talented young woman said that she would like to save some money and donate some of it to charity after getting a job.

She expressed her love for her hometown, Mahalapye, which she said was a very great place and if the right people could join hands and change it, it could be an even better place.

Pageant director, Gaonyafele Phuti said the aim of the contest was to change lives in Mahalapye and its surrounding areas for those living with disability and the unprivileged young women in the community.

“Miss Mahalapye aims at helping young women boost their confidence and unleash their talents as there are not a lot of activities in the village.  It gives the youth a chance to showcase their talents,” she said. She added that the pageant wishes to bring awareness about for a positive healthy lifestyle and living a life with purpose.  She further explained that Mahalapye was known for its notoriety and bad behaviour often linked to alcohol, drug abuse and criminal activities.

“Most youth in Mahalapye think that fun and entertainment can be achieved through alcohol and drug abuse. This pageant aims to change that,” she said.

Phuti said a number of beautiful young women had shown interest in the pageant during the auditions between the ages of 16 and 25.

“This is an age range of people who are still discovering themselves so they become vulnerable,” she observed.
