Taola is a fusion duo that comprises of music producer Bonolo Mogotsi and media practitioner-cum vocalist, Thato Chuma.

The new single, which has an Afrobeat and urban sound fusion comes as a follow up single from the duo’s last release, Wings of love that did quite well in South Africa, as it premiered on DJ Fresh and Euphonik’s Club Culture TV show.  “With Freedom we wanted to leap outside our comfort zone. We decided to make an Afrobeat song with lyrics that are reflective of societal issues,” Chuma, who was on the vocals, said.  The message on the song simply talks of how the different institutions of the society are structured and that freedom is needed in all these institutions.

She noted, “as a fusion group we love to look for inspiration from different genres and that is what we incorporate in our sound. We are quite experimental so we refrain from boxing ourselves in a particular genre”. Freedom is currently available for streaming on SoundCloud.  Chuma said it will soon be available for purchasing on iTunes and various platforms.  She hinted that prior to Freedom the duo will be releasing on an EP, which will be followed by an album this year.

The duo, which has not been fully active when it comes to live performances, is set to stage a number of live events this year.  They have their own upcoming event dubbed ‘The Lounge Experiment’, which is set to start sometime this year.

Despite their previous single Wings of love being appreciated much more in South Africa than in Botswana, Chuma noted that it does not mean that their target audience is in South Africa.

“Our target market is just everyone who appreciates great music. We have a global approach to our sound so we are just fortunate that so far it was mainly South Africans who were responding to our sound.”
