Botswana Softball Association (BSA) president, Tirelo Mukokomane told Mmegi Sport yesterday that they do not have funds to maintain the backstop. He said they are still waiting for the beginning of the financial year.

BSA spokesperson, Kelebogile Seitei said they are still trying to get a Good Samaritan to assist them maintain the backstop.

Meanwhile, the BoFiNeT softball league continued over the weekend in Gaborone and Jwaneng.

Bears women suffered a 5-1 defeat at the hands of log leaders, Police IX (women).

Bears coach, Nnana Lebeko said their game plan against Police IX was to contain their opponents because they were aware that the side never scores less than 10 points. She said they know the style of pitching used by the Police pitcher. “We forced her to pitch strikes and that frustrated her. That made the game difficult for the side. That is why they did not score a lot,” she said. Lebeko said playing with a young side is not a disadvantage because their players have been given exposure before and they even played in South Africa in off-season. She said they are building the team from scratch with youngsters, giving an example of their pitcher. She said the pitcher on the day, Baboni Seretse normally does not pitch the whole game but on Saturday she contained Police.

Lebeko said their plan as a club is to play all tournaments and by end of the season they should be in the top eight. She said they are not going to waste time concentrating on players who have left the club. She said sponsorship remains a challenge for Bears and they survive through funding themselves and also selling merchandise.
