The Reds’ coach, Rudolf Zapata immediately declared his team is in contention for the title after the routine victory. The game started with Moyagoleele pressing for an early goal but Sankoyo stood their ground.

GU winger, Kabelo Seakanyeng was a menace to the Sankoyo defence on the left. Hendrick Moyo missed a golden chance with just a keeper to beat in the 35th minute after a cross from Seakanyeng. The game went to recess with both teams tied at 0-0.

In the second half, GU replaced Jackson Lesole with Lerato Botshelo. Sankoyo crumbled and coach Drago Stanojlovic was sent to the stands after questioning the referee’s decision. Moyagoleele managed to find the opener in the 57th minute through Tumisang Orebonye.  Moyo had another chance in the 59th minute but headed wide.

In the 83rd minute, Orebonye was fouled just outside the box and the striker netted a beautiful header for his brace from a Karabo Phiri delivery.

Wasteful Moyo managed to redeem himself in the 89th minute by neatly controlling the ball and slotting past Sankoyo goal keeper, Kabelo Kuti.

The colourful Zapata immediately declared his team was in the title race. “We are the only team that plays offensive football in this league. Other teams play defend, defend (sic). I hope our fans today saw the beautiful attacking football we played,” Zapata said.

He said they are planning to up their game in the second round. Sankoyo assistant coach, Gadimang Tiiso blamed the poor performance on his team’s lack of training. He said some of their players arrived on Friday just a day before the game. He however, said they expect their full squad to be back at training today (Monday.)
