According to media reports, around 50 politically appointed ambassadors would be following suit, Kirk Wagar, the outgoing USA ambassador to Singapore, told CNBC on Wednesday, himself included.

“There is a misunderstanding that every single US ambassador will be ejected when president-elect Donald Trump takes office on January 20 but only those personally chosen by Obama himself are leaving,” Wagar was quoted.

According to the USA Embassy information specialist Ephraim Keoreng, the ambassador is expected to serve the whole of his three-year term, as he is a career diplomat and not a political appointee.

“Ambassador Earl Miller is a career member of the US Senior Foreign Service with the Department of State. He was sworn in as US Ambassador to the Republic of Botswana on December 18, 2014. His assignment is for three years,” he said.

Miller, a career member of the US Senior Foreign Service, joined the Department of State in 1987. His previous assignment was Consul General at the US Consulate General in Johannesburg, South Africa, from 2011 to 2014.

Ambassador Miller has served in Washington, San Francisco, Miami and Boston and at US Embassies in El Salvador, Malaysia, Indonesia, Iraq and India.

Miller served at the US Embassy in Gaborone from 1995 to 1998. He is a graduate of the University of Michigan and a former US Marine Corps officer. He is the recipient of the Department of State’s Award for Heroism and the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Shield of Bravery.
