Matsha College owes food suppliers

Kang North councillor, Kemmonye Makatane told Mmegi that one of the suppliers, Kang Meat Market, approached him on the matter. He said the supplier complained of the outstanding payment from the school.

“It is not the first time suppliers complain of outstanding payments from Matsha College and this translates to the seriousness of the food shortage at the school.

Sometimes arrangements are made by the school management to get food relief from Motaung Secondary, still in Kang,” Makatane said. He further shared that during the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) meeting held recently, the issue surfaced at the top of the agenda and some parents expressed concern that if not addressed, it could spark riots at the school.

Meat Market manager, Bill Sieberhagen said they were owed 1,200kg of meat valued at P38,400 supplied to the school in November 2016. Sieberhagen said they have made several efforts to solicit payment, but the school management maintained that they only have P8, 000 as their procurement coffers, far less than what the supplier demands.

He further said the school has decided to approach another supplier to get assistance for meat supply on credit basis, while they are yet to get what is due to them.

Matsha College head, Tshokologo Dineo could not confirm nor deny the situation and referred Mmegi to the Kgalagadi Education Director, Onalenna Senwedi.
