The nippy number 10 has been instrumental in Matjimenyenga’s resurgence in the first round of the Debswana First Division North campaign helping his side to a pole position finish ahead of the second round. Machongo also helped TAFIC to the Francistown BOT50 Independence title.

Flamingo’s chairperson, Bashi Joseph said besides Machongo they have expressed interest in TAFIC’s left back, Motseoatile Elijah and six other players from different teams. He said their intention is to finish the recruitment process soon and focus on preparing for the second round.

“We have agreed everything with the TAFIC duo and we are just waiting to wrap it up with their club,” he said.

“We are working around the clock to bring in five others before the end of the week because we want to start preparing for the second lap of the season.”

Although he admits a tough second round, Joseph said their sponsors are expecting nothing apart from promotion this season.

“We are going all the way and it is possible,” he said.

“This is a round where other teams will be fighting to avoid relegation and a lot is bound to happen. We are not far off, all we need is consistency and we are confident we will catch up.”

Matjimenyenga’s spokesperson, Warrant Kolola said his club is not happy with the conduct of their counterparts.

“We are aware they (Flamingoes) have spoken to our players and they have done that behind our backs yet they know well they must consult us before speaking to our players,” he said.

“We are not happy and we will speak to our players but we will not stand in any of the players way if they feel it is of benefit to their careers.”

Meanwhile, Machongo who admitted holding talks with Flamingoes has dismissed agreeing personal terms with the latter but rather pledged loyalty to TAFIC.

“TAFIC is my home and we are on the verge of a great season.

I am optimistic we will be able to achieve our dream of taking our club back to the Premiership and I want to be part of that feat. Of course I spoke to Flamingoes but that was just that. I am here to stay,” Machongo said.
