Notwane spokesperson, Julius Baitumetse said Mogopodi is a man who has spent all his life focusing on development especially during his days at the Gabane-based Uniao Flamengo Santos. The club produced some of the best players in the country, including Mogakolodi ‘Tsotso’ Ngele and Thato ‘Yellow’ Bolweleng. Mogopodi then relocated to GU where he served as assistant coach.

“We know his potential and that is why we went after him. We are aware that some people hold a different view about Mogopodi but for a coach to be successful, he should be given support and resources,” he said.

Baitumetse said they expect Mogopodi to sit on the bench when Notwane take on log leaders, Sharps, in their first league match of the second round.

Notwane are in position five with 16 points. He said the match is a must win for the new man. He said Notwane have decent players who have potential to win the remaining matches. Baitumetse said they intend to sign three players during the current transfer window closes.

He said they do not want to recruit many players because that could destabilise the dressing room.

“We want to have players that can take us to the Premier League. Now we have a new coach and we do not see anything stopping us from achieving our mandate,” Baitumetse said.

For his part, Mogopodi told Mmegi Sport that he has agreed to join Notwane but there were some issues that needed to be ironed out before he signs the contract.

“Everybody wants to win the league, but it takes the commitment of all stakeholders for that to happen. I am yet to assess the players they have and see if they have the potential to win the league before I commit myself,” he said.

Mogopodi was given the responsibility to coach the national Under-20 during the recent COSAFA Under-20 championship held in South Africa. The team lost all their matches, failing to find the back of the net in the process.
