At the time of going to press, it was not clear whether Ngurungu will be able to honour their game against GU on Saturday.

The players are demanding outstanding payments after going for more than six months without pay.

In December, Sankoyo’s game against Green Lovers almost failed to materialise as key players refused to travel to Serowe for the fixture.

Things seem to have not improved as this year the bulk of the first team including the team management have gone AWOL. Moreover, there are question marks on whether Sankoyo coach Dragojlo Stanojlovic will return to the team as he had also not reported for duty by Thursday just a day before the GU game. “He was supposed to return this week. But he may never return due to the financial situation of the team,” a source said.

Sankoyo assistant coach, Gadimang Tiiso on Wednesday explained: “We are still assembling the team. More than eight players are missing. We do not know if they will return before our game on Saturday.” Tiiso further explained that the team has nowhere to train as the pitch they use along the Thamalakane River is waterlogged. He reiterated that they have no money to book the Maun Sports Complex for training.  Efforts to contact Sankoyo public relations officer, Phemelo Saleshando were futile as he did not answer his mobile phone.

Meanwhile, it is understood that six Sankoyo players are on the wanted list of other Premiership teams. Team manager, Onalenna Dithakanyane however explained that they have received offers for Botshelo Mafoko from Orapa United, Moagi Sechele and Basimanebotlhe Moilwa from BDF XI and Ogomoditse Bauleni from TAFIC.
