The document outlines the INF’s vision, mission and goals for 2017-2020, and is centred around three main strategic priorities, governing with integrity, thrilling world class events, and empowering through netball.

BONA president, Tebogo Lebotse-Sebego told Mmegi Sport that the new strategy is the continuation of another four-year INF strategy that ended in 2016. She said the three pillars stand on the firm foundation of the last four-year plan.

She said the previous strategy helped her association to align their strategy to the Botswana National Sport Commission’s Vision 2028.

She said the BONA strategy is in line with INF strategy especially when it comes to empowerment through netball.  “We are hosting the World Youth Netball Championships in Gaborone in July. Hosting in its own way is an advantage. It is an opportunity to empower our players as the strategy says,” she said.

Lebotse-Sebego said the World Cup is a platform to empower coaches and officials and make sure that they are accredited with the INF. She said the event is a way of fast tracking the growth of the sport among nations, not just the players. She said Botswana is the centre of attraction and that should work to the country’s advantage.

Lebotse-Sebego said the World Youth Netball Championships should leave a legacy for Botswana. She said there should be visible changes in the development of netball past the World Cup.

Meanwhile the INF President, Molly Rhone said in a press statement that the aim is to empower those involved in the game. “The power of sport, of women’s sport, and of netball in particular, to change lives is extraordinary,” she said.

Botswana has already hosted the Africa Netball World Youth Cup qualifiers, which determined the three African qualifiers. South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Uganda will represent the continent. New Zealand are the defending champions.
