Maifala, who was voted into office in 2014, together with his committee face allegations of maladministration but the president is optimistic he will be given another term.

The current committee failed to call an annual general meeting last year and saw some of the proposed tournaments cancelled.

Maifala, however said affiliates were informed that the association ran out of funds hence some of the activities had to be cancelled.

He further said they resorted to giving the clubs the rights to organise the tournaments, which clubs failed to.

Some clubs have come out fighting, saying the committee kept them in the dark.

But Maifala was quick to refute the allegations, claiming it was lack of cooperation from the clubs. “I called two meetings in December, only a few clubs pitched.

I called another meeting yesterday (Wednesday) only five clubs attended. We are trying to push hard and some are dragging their feet,” he said.

He further said the committee had to call off the elective meeting last year as they agreed with affiliates that the current constitution is old and needs to be updated.

He said the postponement of the meeting was to allow the amendment of the constitution.

“Our constitution has loopholes especially when it comes to issues of discipline. We have submitted a draft to the Registrar of Societies. Our affiliates are aware of that.

The financial audit is also on going. These are things that we agreed with the clubs that we needed to sort before we go for the general meeting,” he said. Maifala also said they had to align with the Botswana National Sport Commission (BNSC) requirements hence a lot of changes which caused postponements and cancellations of some of the clubs’ activities.

Maifala, who early last year declared that he will seek another term, said he remains unshaken by the recent unrest and will stand for the upcoming elections.

“Obviously they will be those who will be not happy with the work I have put in. But we have been the best committee thus far.

The only problem we have had with our clubs has been the cancellation of some tournaments.

In terms of bringing sponsorships and revenue, we have been the best and I will stand for the upcoming elections,” he declared.
