The ruling party’s Palapye branch has written a letter of complaint to the party’s leadership complaining about the performance of area chairman, Samuel Maeka.

The party is hoping to win the upcoming by-election for Boikago-Madiba ward, which was occasioned by the death of Richie Kenosi, a BDP councillor. The poll will be held on January 21.

The party’s secretary general, Botsalo Ntuane told Mmegi that any issues arising now would only be dealt with after the by-election.

“We will deal with any issue, if there is any, after the by-election.

Right now all focus is on the by-election. No further comment till after by-election,” Ntuane said yesterday in an interview. Area MP Moiseraele Goya was equally curt.

“I don’t want to say anything regarding this by-election. Any questions on what is happening should be answered by party secretary general (Ntuane).”

The BDP’s Palapye branch wrote to the leadership complaining that Maeka was not attending party activities and would cost the party the by-election.

Maeka said he was aware that his committee had written a complaint letter against him to the region.  “I think the branch committee is trying to be involved in a dispute that I am having with the area MP.

I have attended all branch committee meetings and I was the one chairing the vetting committee for candidates in primaries, and conducting primary elections.

I only missed two secret branch committee meetings that they called without my knowledge,” Maeka said.

He continued: “The reason why there is tension amongst members is because I do not agree with the MP on candidates who will be contesting for party positions at the upcoming party congress.

Our differences started when we were going to the Mmadinare congress. These people are trying to topple me from the branch committee.”

The branch chairman said he had responded to the letter written by the committee and had evidence that he had been attending meetings.
