Herdsman rapes four-year old

According to station commander, Superintendent Michael Maphephu the accused was left to care for the victim and her sibling while the mother went to run some errands in town.

Maphephu said the herdsman summoned the children into the house and chased away one sibling before abusing the little girl.

“Fortunately, we managed to catch the culprit and he will be making his appearance soon at the magistrate court,” he said.

On a different matter Maphephu said police are also investigating a case in which a 54-year-old grandfather is said to have raped his 10-year-old granddaughter. The minor had been left under his care by parents.

The station commander said police were alerted to the matter after suspicious neighbours reported.

“The child confessed to us that the grandfather had been sleeping with her for some time up until the time he was arrested.

It appears that the grandfather had been threatening the child not to tell anyone hence the reason she never told her parents,” added Maphephu.

The grandfather is in police custody and will appear in court this week.

Police in the area are also investigating a case in which a man was found appearing lifeless along a road in Letlhakane.  The man later died on arrival at the hospital.

Maphephu said prior to his death, the deceased had been reported missing on December 25. He was found on December 27.

“The deceased had visited his aunt at Mosu cattlepost and later went out for drinks.

We suspect that upon returning he lost his way home.

“We suspect that he travelled for the whole day trying to find his way home because after he was reported missing on December 26, we searched for him in the entire village to no avail.

We then found him the following day on the road just a few kilometers from the aunt’s home.”

“We suspect that he died from dehydration, hunger and fatigue because by the time we found him he was still alive but his skin was very pale,” Maphephu said.
