The main fight, organised by Bond Boxing Promotions, threatens spills and thrills as Musariri set the pace with a highly charged interview with Mmegi Sport this week.

The Delta Force Boxing Academy boxer urged fans to come early, as his fight against the Bond Boxing Gym pugilist, might not last long.

While Musariri is all fired up, Mokgadi kept his cool during an interview with Mmegi Sport on Wednesday.

“I am the Mad Cobra not just the Cobra because by that you might be describing a floor polish,” he said between chuckles.

Musariri said his opponent would leave the ring with cobra bites. He said they are in Gaborone for a mission that would last for only a few minutes.

Musariri, who will be making his debut in Botswana, said he has not seen Mokgadi fight before but has learnt that he is not an easy opponent. Musariri’s coach, Simon Sankulani said they are not in the country to play or add numbers.  “We are here for business and we want to rest early. We knew about this bout three months ago and our preparations went according to plan. We are going to execute that tonight. Supporters must come early because fights that involve my boxers do not last long,” Sankulani said.

Regarding the level of professional boxing between the two countries, Sankulani said Botswana is still behind and that Zimbabwe intends to assist the country develop.

Mokgadi goes into a fight with a record of four wins and one draw. He has fought two international fights; one against a South African opponent, which he won and a draw against a Namibian boxer.

“Preparations are not about physical fitness, you must also be mentally fit. The two must work as a unit. I am ready for my bout against Mad Cobra. I have worked on my weaknesses,” he said.  Mokgadi said Pro boxing is growing but the challenge is sponsorship. Super A1 sponsors the boxer for tonight’s match.

The supporting bout is between Thabiso Mpolokang (three wins, no loss) and Tinashe Motoza from Zimbabwe. Tshepo Khutloeng faces Onkarabile Mothibedi while Freeman Mavomba is up against Boago Gaosego in the other bouts.

Meanwhile, the fight promoter, Bond Ngubula said tonight’s tournament is titled The Voyage, and the aim is to have to events per year.

“The Voyage is our eighth tournament since 2013. We are inconsistent in hosting tournaments due to sponsorship challenges,” he said.

Ngubula said they have four confirmed bouts, two of six rounds each and two bouts of four rounds. He said for the first time, they are working with Botswana Boxing Association (BoBA). He said there are four amateur bouts, which are curtain raisers.

“Amateur is the foundation of boxing. We need good boxers from amateur in order for them to excel in Pro. There is no time to teach somebody to jab or move in Pro, it is business,” he said.Ngubula said BoBA would sanction amateur bouts while Professional Boxing Association of Botswana would sanction Pro bouts. Super A1, LEGIGO, Bres, Insight Car Rentals, Trador, Senn Foods, Fairground Holdings and Web tickets sponsor The Voyage.
