Ditlhokwe, who was part of the Under-20 side that took part in the COSAFA Championships in December, signed a two-year deal with the club on a free transfer after a stint with Nico United.

Olerile has been the third choice in the left back position with Karabo Phiri being the preferred option by coach Rodolfo Zapata. Gosegonna “Slesh” Molapisi has been deputising Phiri.

Olerile played a huge part before the arrival of Zapata, but has made only a single appearance this season in the Mascom Top 8 fixture against BDF XI despite being one of the club’s top earners. The attacking full back was one of the players who boycotted training late last season, criticising the Argentinean tactician’s training methods as “harsh”.  His situation could have been worsened after he had differences with the club management over unpaid salaries. The Maape-born star took the club to the Labour Office, but the two parties ware said to have kissed and made up.

GU communications’ manager, Ernest Mosedame was quick to refute that the player was being sidelined. He said players are selected looking at their performances. “He had every right to complain when he felt that he was wronged. We believe that players are selected based on their efforts in training, form and recent performances. I cannot say what he did has anything to do with him not getting game time,” he said.

Mosedame further said Ditlhokwe is not in any way, an effort to push the experienced left back out of the club. “The coach gave us his wish list and all our signings would be based on his recommendations. We have been chasing Ditlhokwe for a while. We invited him to train with the team in December and he impressed the technical team hence why he was signed. I would not say his arrival would have an impact on Slesh, Karabo or Olerile’s future at the club. Everyone would have to fight for a place and show the coach why they deserve to be in the team,” Mosedame said.

Mosedame also said the club is assessing two Zambians strikers, Jeff Sekapite and Akahulubelwa Mwachiaba from Roan United and Indeni FC respectively. The two are having trials at the club as the technical team move to boost the strike force.

GU has been struggling upfront since the departure of Namibian Benson Shilongo. Zapata had to rely on 20-year-old Tumisang Orebonye as the more experienced Moatlhodi Ralesotla and Hendrick Moyo were yet to find their scoring boots.

Meanwhile, Zapata who is a stern believer in young talent has invited three GU’s Under-17 side to train with the senior team. The trio is Young Zebras’ goalkeeper Ryan Brown and midfielders Tshiamo Small and Kabo Sesholoo. Two more youngsters are expected to join the team during the transfer window.
