Five countries for COSSASA athletics competition

The two-day event will be held at the UB Stadium. It will feature hosts Botswana, defending champions South Africa, Namibia, Lesotho and Swaziland. Each country is expected to field 50 athletes.

Some of the big names that will be in action for Botswana are sprinters Bosekeng Golebaone (100m) and Leungo Mophako (200m) and high jumper Rebakaone Ralebelwana. BISA spokesperson Tapiwa Mokoka said the athletes have been impressive and they are expected to represent the country well. Some of them have represented the country in international competitions like the World Youth Championships.

Botswana coach, Thomas Ndazila,  told Mmegi Sport that they are prepared and he is confident that his charges will represent the country well. He said he has a number of experienced athletes in camp and the girls and boys are raring to go. He encouraged parents to come and rally behind the children and boost their morale.

He thanked the Botswana Athletics Association (BAA) for supporting them and making the event possible.Botswana finished second behind South Africa in the last edition of the competition. The official opening for the event will be held tomorrow afternoon when the Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture, Shaw Kgathi, is expected to give a keynote address.
