Unpacked: President Masisi Needs To Chill!!

Our nation is heading for a deliberate disastrous outcome. Friends are becoming enemies, brothers are back stabbing one another. There is a need for calmness, true leadership, most of all President Dr. Mokgweetsi Masisi needs to chill.

It is now in the open that there is bad blood between President Dr. Masisi and former President Lt General Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama. I have to admit, I have never truly been a Khama fan. In principle I have always openly disagreed with former President Lt General Dr. Seretse Khama Ian Khama.

His style of leadership always bothered within an element of militancy and dictatorial. He however had a peculiar element when it came to decision making. Lt General Dr. Seretse Khama Ian Khama made independent decisions, often influenced by certain elements in the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP), yet very well independent.

President Dr. Mokgweetsi Masisi on the other hand started of well, of late he is becoming a nuisance to even himself. You see many of us have our hopes in President Dr. Mokgweetsi Masisi’s leadership. He is soiling the goodwill we all not only as sympathisers of the ruling party were giving his administration, but as a whole nation.

For a society to render President Mokgweetsi Masisi an incompetent leader doesn’t take even any sort of commitment to ousting him from the presidency. Those he find himself associated with, his circle of advisors inclusive of his very own Cabinet will be the very test of his presidency.

If President Masisi is seen often travelling with an arrogant and pompous legislator whom he Masisi would have appointed as a Cabinet minister, Batswana will judge not only he Masisi harshly, but also the BDP. The need for him to fire Carter Morupisi has always been at the pinnacle of every discussion, every corner of society, even our small houses know of this need!!

In the political corridors some are praising President Masisi for reversing plenty of former President Dr. Seretse Khama Ian Khama’s administration initiatives, look I have never been that much of a fan of the former, but I feel these applauses of President Masisi by some are misguided and misleading.  For starters, President Masisi served under the former president for a very long period. It is public knowledge President Mokgweetsi Masisi owes his political career to former president Dr. Seretse Khama Ian Khama. It was he, Khama, who stood in support of Masisi when many doubted his commitment and political strength to take the BDP forward. Khama has remained loyal to Masisi by all means. It is important that for the sake of both party and country, peace between the former and the current be maintained. You see in Botswana the usefulness of state power is so great, its capacity for good as well as evil is so enormous, that in the struggle to control it and in the actual use of its politicians end up being intoxicated and carried away to the extent that they throw caution and morality to the dustbins.

In fact, the popular conception that in politics everything goes is a reflection of the single-minded pursuit and use of state power by politicians with hardly any restraint from morality and other considerations.

The Germans have a school of thought they refer to as “Realpolitik”. According to this school of thought a politician must rely on a hard-nosed, unsentimental and unemotional application of power to accomplish his objectives. Realpolitik thus refers to the single-minded and unyielding use of power in politics with hardly any restraint from moral consideration. A politician achieves his objectives by relying on his power when this is sufficient or by allying himself with a more powerful politician.

We are all aware of the thugs out there who wish to cash in amidst this heated moment. We are all aware of those who seek to be seen in supportive of President Dr Mokgweetsi Eric Masisi at the expense of the former President Lt General Dr. Seretse Khama Ian Khama’s integrity. We are all aware of the sudden appearance of self-appointed defenders of the new President. We are all aware of the change of guard of some in pursuit of self-enrichment and to be regarded as close allies to the new President.

I have always been clear on my submissions in relation to President Dr Mokgweetsi Eric Masisi: He should be extra careful of those who praise him above anything. He should be careful of praise poets who never question his decisions. He must always be careful of thugs pretending to be preachers of the word.

For a moment, President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi must chill, introspect his own actions, introspect those around him and pursue a goal genuine enough to maintain peace within both the party and government. The first step in doing so is firing Carter Morupisi. We definitely cannot continue with a Permanent Secretary behaving like a Prime Minister.

Carter Morupisi has anointed himself with powers exceeding those of Jesus e santse ele morutwana. The finger still points in the direction of President Dr Mokgweetsi Eric Masisi to call his Permanent Secretary to order. His continuous attempts to humiliate the former President Lt General Dr. Seretse Khama Ian Khama shall not go unattended to.

Khama not only is a former statesman, he is also the Paramount Chief of Bangwato commanding respect from the corner posts of Dibete towards the northern borders of this country.

If push is for shove, we shall defend the integrity of the former President Lt General Dr. Seretse Khama Ian Khama by all means necessary. We love President Dr Mokgweetsi Eric Masisi, thus we shall not allow for this continuous manifestation of evil by those close to him.
