Reikeletseng rubbishes AUSC report

The organisation has insinuated that Botswana was not eligible to vote in the elections for the secretariat that were held last month in Swakopmond, Namibia.

Other countries that did not vote in the elections were Mozambique, Zambia and Zimbabwe because they are not in good standings with the region. Six countries; Angola, Lesotho, Malawi, Namibia, South Africa and Swaziland were eligible to vote. Reikeletseng said Botswana has paid everything and does not owe anything.

“They are being disorderly. Botswana has paid everything and we do not owe. I was at those elections. We participated in the elections but we did not contest because we were not interested.

But to say we are not in good standing is not true,” he said. Reikeletseng said Botswana is housing AUSC offices and it is impossible to be out of line with the association.

Meanwhile, AUSC Region Five held their end of year executive committee meeting and quadrennial elections on November 5. Vetumbuavi Veii (Namibia) and George Jana (Malawi) were retained unopposed as chairman and vice chairman respectively.

Lawrence Mthethwa (Swaziland) was elected unopposed to the position of chairperson finance and marketing which was held by Retired Colonel Charles Nhemachena (Zimbabwe) who did not stand.

Antonio Gomes (Angola) was elected chairman for the sports development technical commission after two rounds of voting could not separate him and Limpho Mokhochane (Lesotho).

The two were only separated by casting lots. The new secretariat is now duly charged with discharging duty for the next four years. The next elections are due in 2020.
