Flopped BMD Rally Fires Missiles At BCP

While one would have thought the rally would have many party members coming to hear from their leaders on the way forward, the gathering was a flop with just over 100 attendants. It was promoted using the UDC name and the speakers kept referring to it as a coalition event.
The rally, which started two hours later than the stated 2pm, was characterised by speakers vowing that they would not allow the Botswana Congress Party (BCP) to push them out of the party they built.
Amongst those who spit vile at the BCP were council candidate from Tlokweng Joseph Matlapeng, national organising secretary Freddy Ramodise, Councillor Rhoda Sekgororoane and party chairperson, Nehemiah Modubule.
Matlapeng accused the BCP of deceiving the Botswana National Front (BNF) and the Botswana People’s Party (BPP).
“There was only the three of us when the BCP said they could do it on their own and they failed dismally. We then gave them a chance and accepted them into the UDC only for them to cause troubles and take away our wife in the BNF and BPP,” he said.
“We are the reason the opposition parties agreed to work together and now they have disposed us. We will not rest until we get our wife back. Saleshando has failed to win elections before and he will not win against us.” Ramodise also unleashed vile against Saleshando likening him to former president Ian Khama.
“Just like Khama, he got the BCP presidency on a silver platter at home. Saleshando just rode on his father’s presidency like Khama. He is incapable hence Gaborone Central people did not vote for him. He is now contesting in a constituency that was given to him by the BMD, but he is not grateful. Boko should know that it is not too late for him to turn against him. He has erred and he still has an opportunity to make things right,” he said.
“Batswana told him they want united opposition and he cannot be the one to expel us.
The two parties have failed to work together before and they cannot just expel us when we have Batswana interests at heart and made unity possible.”
Modubule said the BCP’s intentions were to keep the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) in power longer. He said all they wanted was to destroy the UDC unity and not attain state power from the BDP. He said UDC is their home and they do not recognise their expulsion from the party.
The BMD was expelled for “acting against the interests of the UDC”.
Announcing the expulsion of the BMD at a press conference recently, Duma Boko said, “They failed to address accusations against them. The party has acted against the interests of the UDC. They displayed total disrespect and disregard of UDC leadership, membership and structures. They have an opportunity to appeal in 30 days and their appeal will be handled by a congress if they choose to go ahead with it”.
