However, there is a catch: Khan wants certain long overdue developments in the village met first.

The legislator told an Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) rally here on Saturday that he wants a police station and Molepolole-Gaborone road developments addressed before he could consider a move to BDP.

The storm water drainage system and water shortages have been challenges for the villagers for a long time and Khan said he told Masisi to solve these before everything else.

“It is not a secret that the President and other BDP members have been recruiting me. I told him that I want issues of Molepolole to be addressed first. The issue of water shortage in our village has been there for years, former MP for Molepolole South Daniel Kwelagobe and the late MP Gaotlhaetse Matlhabaphiri have been talking about it. Bakwena have been voting BDP for years but nothing has changed.

I would not stop talking about these issues as your MP,” Khan said. He said the BDP government has never liked Bakwena because the money that was budgeted for storm water drainage system was diverted twice to projects in other villages.  He said the issue of construction of Molepolole-Gaborone road is not even clear after Bakwena were promised that the project would commence.

Khan asked Bakwena to vote for the UDC en masse so that the numbers of councillors could increase.

“BDP councillors will always block developments in the area when opposition councillors are bringing good motions. There is need to change some of these BDP councillors,” he said.

UDC vice president, Dumelang Saleshando told the attendants that there is nothing that Masisi is going to change as the President.

“Education standard is going down and Molepolole is one of the affected areas. BDP has been in power for many years and it has been changing presidents. There is nothing new that will be introduced because the policies are the same,” Saleshando said.

“In fact the situation is going to be worse. Health issues are also worsening in the country. He has been in the office for more than 100 days, but there is nothing that Batswana could be proud of.”  He said it is time for Batswana to change the government.
