Victorious: Mafolofolo were rampant at the Zone VI Championships

Mafolofolo successfully defended the title they won last year.

The championships were attended by Namibia, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Swaziland and Lesotho. South Africa competed in the women’s category. Police have been competing in the championship since 2010. In 2013, they finished in the semi-finals when the competition was held in Botswana.

The team finished in the losers’ finals and brought bronze medal from Mozambique in 2014. Last year, the Cops were eliminated in the losers’ finals in Swaziland coming home empty handed.

Police coach, Shimaka Ngwanaotsile told Mmegi Sport from Swakopmund that winning Zone VI is a dream come true for his side.

“We have been on this road for a very long time. Finally we have reached our destination. It was not easy but I realised from our performance last year that we are in the right track,” he said.

Ngwanaotsile said at the beginning of the year, his target was to win the Mascom Volleyball League and compete in regional competitions.

He said with the quality of players that he assembled, he knew that his team was unstoppable.

He said after winning the league he shifted the focus to Zone VI of which they became victorious. Ngwanaotsile said the plan is to compete in the Africa Cup where they want to learn a lot because it attracts Africa powerhouses.

Africa Cup has been dominated by Al Ahly (Egypt), CS Sfaxien (Tunisia) and Zamalek (Algeria).
