Exciting softball season ahead

BSA public relations officer, Kelebogile Seitei said it is hard to predict the outcome of the season because the league has been on break since April.
“If the Phikwe softball extravaganza and the VUT breast cancer tournament are anything to go by then Wells International and Police IX (both men and women) teams are expected to cause an upset,” she said.
There is a new kid on the block, Tati Bulls.
But BDF IX (men) is a side that cannot be ignored, after welcoming leading pitcher, Kagiso Molefhe.
Two former UB Giants players are expected to don BDF colours this season. UB Giants coach, Dizo Selemogwe said his side has a good off-season training programme, which is the reason the team was off to a winning start. UB Giants’ women lead the log with two points.
“We took part in a tournament in Vaal where we did well. The outcome of good preparations is yielding positive results. I just hope that we sustain the good results as the season progresses,” he said. Selemogwe said just like other clubs, they also have weaknesses.
Seitei said they have not started the restructuring of the league, which would see a division into a minor and major league.
“Affiliates have not started discussions around having a minor and major league. The process has not started. We are not even sure if that process would start,” she said.
Seitei said if a proposal is received, it would be discussed at next year’s annual general meeting. She was responding to reports that there are moves to trim teams from 20 to 16, with the axed sides, forming the minor league.
Meanwhile, Seitei said the league fixtures have left allowances for national teams activities. She said they are assembling two teams, the senior men and junior women. She said there is an international friendly against South Africa on November 30 and December 1.
“There is also Africa qualifiers in January. What is also different this season is that we have international club championship with neighbouring countries. That was agreed with South Africa at our last bilateral meeting held in Gaborone,” she said.
