Coe was in the country on Saturday and Sunday, but his high profile visit has set the two sports bodies on a collision course. BAA has been asked to explain why it set up a Local Organising Committee (LOC) without the approval of the BNSC.

Also, the BNSC wants the BAA to explain why it went to the Office of the President (OP) to request for luxury vehicles to transport Coe during his stay.

Acting BNSC chief executive officer, Gaba Gaetsewe said what BAA did amounts to insubordination. She said procedure is that names for the LOC have to be submitted to the board for approval.

“We learnt that they have an LOC from other people and we knew nothing about that. Now BAA has to explain that. We would see the way forward after they respond,” Gaetsewe said.

An official at the BAA secretariat confirmed that they have received the letter from BNSC. The official, who preferred anonymity, said they have been given up to November 17 to respond.

“We are wondering why we are being asked to explain the establishment of an LOC,” the official said.

The BAA reportedly failed to secure vehicles from the government, and had to seek assistance from a dealership. The BAA official said they had put in a request with the OP, but were not successful hence the decision to seek assistance elsewhere.
