The match started with Systems having an upper hand and made frequent visits to Nico’s goalposts. Just five minutes into the game, Systems’ striker, Vincent Lekorwe gave Majombolo’s goalkeeper Otsile Ben his first real test after taking a powerful long shot outside the box. Ben, however was on high alert and managed to save the ball. Three minutes later, Systems’ Molebeledi Gabofiwe sliced through Nico’s defence but failed to convert the golden opportunity with his effort going wide.

Majombolo on the other hand had difficulties possessing the ball and found their opponents’ defence very solid to crack. In the 22nd minute, the hosts got an opportunity to take the lead but their striker Tlotlo Mpema failed to utilise the chance and shot over the post.

Just 10 minutes before the end of the first half, the visitors were left with 10 players after Gabofiwe got a red card for his foul on goalkeeper, Ben. The first half elapsed with the score line still at 0-0.

Both teams came into the second half gun blazing with Systems taking the lead just after five minutes. The goal came through Galefetoge Kenaope. In the 56th minute, Kago Nfila gave Systems their second goal with a header from a corner kick.

Although Nico had a slight upper hand in the last 10 minutes of the match, they failed to utilise the chances they got.

The score line remained unchanged until Emmanuel Kaelo of Systems scored the third goal just one minute before the final whistle to ensure that his team bags the three points.

According to Systems coach, Thaloba Nthaga, his boys could have won the match with a bigger margin had they utilised the numerous opportunities they got in the first half.

He however applauded the players for collecting the three points, noting that they have to improve on their finishing as they prepare for their next game.

“I am happy with our play as we did not look like we were one player short. For our next encounter we really need to work on our finishing to ensure that we do not waste any more opportunities,” he said.

Nico United coach, Dean Mwiinde expressed disappointment in his team’s performance. He said they gave Systems a Christmas gift. “Our problems today lied within individuals as our ball possession was very poor and the play was amateurish. We however remain hopeful that we will make a comeback as we still have other matches ahead,” said Mwiinde.
