Boyfriend Stabs Ex, Kills Her Mother

The 66-year-old mother succumbed to her stab wounds last Wednesday at Letlhakane Primary Hospital after a brief admission.  The woman was stabbed in the chest and around her abdomen. Her daughter was left bedridden at the same hospital with multiple stab wounds, police said.  The incident took place at Tomotomodikae cattle post near Letlhakane.

The 29-year-old woman and the ex-boyfriend have four children together.  According to the police, the two had separated a while back and the woman was in a new relationship.

The suspect allegedly showed up at her ex-girlfriend’s place around midnight over the weekend where he found her sleeping alone in the house.  A fight ensued at that time and the old woman, who was sleeping in a separate house, woke up to the noise. Letlhakane Station Commander, Michael Maphephu said the old woman was stabbed when she was trying to intervene in the fight.

He said the suspect fled the scene after committing the crimes. He said they later detained the suspect in Letlhakane, and has been charged with two counts of felony. The suspect is due to appear before the Letlhakane Magistrate Court. “In our interviews, the man claims he thought he was being attacked by the new boyfriend as at the time it was dark.

He will be appearing before the magistrate soon on two charges of murder and causing grievous bodily harm,” the police superintendent said.

Maphephu said they recorded a series of different offences from Nkosho ward in the past week, including two defilement matters and a grievous bodily harm case. He said a 33-year-old woman doused her 38-year-old boyfriend with a bucket of boiling water after an argument and the victim has been referred to Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital in critical condition.

In the defilement matters, a 19-years-old man was charged with sleeping with a 15-years-old girl.  The man had taken in the Form Two student of Motsumi Juniour Secondary School for four days.

The girl was reported missing. Upon interrogation by her parents on her return she notified them that she had been staying with the boyfriend. In another case, a 24-year-old entered into a relationship with a 14-year-old girl and defiled her.

“Apparently in this ward, there is a nightclub, and these adolescent girls roam the surroundings of the club that is where they meet the men. It is, however, no an excuse to defile the girls and we have apprehended the suspects,” Maphephu said.
