The Bangladeshis, Moshair Hossain and Mustafa Kamai Sajib appeared in court together last week with a special constable Abednico Mothaba, Zimbabwean Joseph Kateya, South African Lazarus Bhebhe, locals Kabo Ngwenya, Khumo Tibone, Edwin Sereme and Chesta Mehlwa Tshelele for allegedly breaking into and stealing goods especially plasma television sets of various types from Nihama Pty Ltd and Super Life Trading storeroom on October 20, October 9 and October 31.

In total the accused are alleged to have stolen goods amounting to close to P420,000. The Bangladesh nationals then made an urgent court application at the High Court praying with the court to grant them bail.

The court’s decision on the bail application has since been set to November 14.

Today the duo and their co-accused were arraigned before court in relation to new charges.

In the fresh first count, the state alleges that Hossain and Sajib and their co-accused broke into a dwelling house belonging to Jianping Zhou at Molapo Estates on October 25, 2018.

In another count, the state alleges after the accused broke into the house, they

proceeded to steal plasma television sets and other household goods worth P23,780 belonging to Jianping on the same day.

The accused’s pleas in the matters have been reserved because police investigations in the matter are still fresh.

Sergeant Keneilwe Baruti told the court that three other persons implicated in the commission of the crimes have been arrested and are in police custody.

Baruti told the court that the three people who were recently arrested are girlfriends of the some accused persons in the matter.

She added that the girlfriends were found in possession of some of the stolen goods.

After the accused appeared in court, magistrate Cele Lebakeng postponed the matter to November 14 for possible consolidation of the accused’s cases before the substantive magistrate Kaveri Kapeko.

Before the accused appeared before Lebakeng, for arraignment in relation to the new charges, they appeared before magistrate Lebogang Kebeetsweng in relation to breaking into and stealing from warehouses.

The prosecutor in the matter Gasemotho Pitlagano told the court that the purpose of the appearance was for status report in relation to how the investigations were going.

“The purpose of this appearance is to update the court about how far the investigations are going. The investigations are still continuing. We pray that the accused should further be remanded in custody,” said Pitlagano.

Magistrate Kebeetsweng remanded the accused in custody and postponed the matter to November 15.

The children of the Bangladeshis cried hysterically after their parents appeared in court.
