The situation has reportedly curtailed the current committee from performing its duties, leading to a letter of complaint being written to the party’s central committee.

On Tuesday, BNFYL secretary general, Osenotse Mabote said the lack of a handover was key among challenges the new committee was facing.

“The challenges we are facing as the new committee include lack of funds and failure by the previous committee to do official handover. This is one of the reasons why we are lagging behind in performing our mandate. The other challenges revolve around socio economic factors,” Mabote said.

Mmegi has learnt that the new committee wrote a complaint letter to the BNF central committee seeking intervention on the issue.  “The party’s secretary general was told to handle the matter to ensure that the handover took place. The secretary general is expected to give a report in the coming central committee on the issue,” the source said.

BNF spokesperson, Justin Hunyepa confirmed that the matter was being handled by the secretary general’s office.

“This issue is internal and I had thought it was long resolved. It is true, the secretary general’s office was assigned to resolve it,” Hunyepa said.

Former BNFYL president, Kemmonye Makatane said the handover was delayed by clashes between his duties in Council and the new committees’ own schedule.

“Of course we have delayed to hand over due to our different work commitment. At times my schedule was colliding with theirs. I hope we will hand over before the youth leadership forum, which is scheduled for next February,” Makatane said.
