Maswe has experienced a spectacular rise to stardom in the last two years and enjoyed a stellar year having won the best Mosakaso album at the annual Botswana Music Union (BOMU) awards held last month.

On Saturday the Mosakaso pioneer walked away with all the awards he was nominated for at the second edition of the NAA. The Francistown based musician was voted the best employer, best MC and Best Mosakaso artist.

The Zvamaronga hit maker also walked away with the prestigious ‘award of honour’ to further cement his credentials as one of the best artists in the country.

The awards ensured that Maswe maintained dominance at the NAA awards since their inception last year. In his sojourn at the NAA he grabbed the lifetime achiever award as well as the honour of being the most popular artist.

Maswe’s awards were collected by his wife as the musician was said to be headlining a gig in Ramotswa.

In an interview with Showbiz yesterday an excited MC Maswe said, “I have worked long and hard to reach this level. I have been in the music industry for 26 years and I am glad that most Batswana are beginning to fully appreciate my potential”.

Maswe said that the awards would serve as a greater encouragement for him to work hard in order to maintain his excellence.

“I would also like to thank God and my fans as well as the media for their overwhelming support towards all my music projects,” he said.

Other winners at the NAA awards which were punctuated by glamour are Dj Colestraw, who was voted the best DJ (Disc Jockey).

The unheralded Clint won the best hip-hop/Motswako artist beating YAMA award winner B Blok. Baiseraele also emerged one of the big winners at the awards walking away with the best gospel album and best music video respectively.

In the media category, Mmegi’s Lesedi Mkhutshwa scooped the best reporter award.
