Making headway: Botswana Netball Association president, Lebotse- Sebego

Speaking to Mmegi Sport yesterday, BONA president, Tebogo Lebotse-Sebego who is also the president of African Netball, said 40% of the money will be solely for the team’s preparations for the games.

“We submitted a budget of P30 million to the government but we got P10.9 million and of the amount around 40% is meant for the team’s preparations. This means we should keep cajoling the private sector,” she said. Lebotse-Sebego stated that they appreciate the government support even though they had wished for more money.  “We understand that there is currently an issue of financial constraint. It would be unfair for us to say we are not getting support. They have tried their best looking at the state of the economy,” she highlighted.

Quizzed on how the team preparations are going, Lebotse-Sebego said that the other section of the team is currently competing at the ongoing AUCS games in Angola.

“Those who did not qualify are currently on camp and we are intending to give them a short break for the holidays,” she said.  She said the team will be under the tutelage of two local coaches. They have roped in Kate Carpenter as a technical advisor.

The games are scheduled for Gaborone from July 8 to July 18 next year. Among teams that will take part are the hosts Botswana, South Africa, Zimbabwe and Uganda who will be representing Africa.
