Double Action are yet to confirm their participation where they have been invited together with league champions, Township Rollers.

The two sides have been invited to take part in an eight-team tournament themed, “Stand up for gender equality” in Bulawayo. However by yesterday, Double Action’s executive committee member, Agreement Podi told Mmegi Sport that they are still finalising logistics required for the tournament.

“As of now we cannot say much on the tournament. We are running around preparing for the whole trip and I think we will be ready to discuss the whole trip tomorrow (Thursday),” he said.

On the other hand, Rollers’ public relations officer, Bafana Pheto said the team could not pass the chance to grow the Rollers brand in the continent. “As you may recall, our men’s team will be participating in the CAF Champions League next year. The invitation shows that our brand as a team has really grown hence we accepted the invitation to go and play,” he said.

Pheto further said the performance of the women’s team that won the league back to back in the last two seasons might have played a part in the team being invited for the one day tourney. “We will be sending a team of 18 players and seven officials. We will be providing ourselves with transport and refreshments while the organisers of the tournament provide accommodation. This is also a chance for the people to know more about our team. We have been performing well locally,” he said.

Rollers and Action will face Harare-based side, Blue Swallows, Flame Lily from Gweru and defending champions Black Rhinos. The tournament will be held at the Hartsfield Stadium in Bulawayo.

The teams follow Prisons XI and UB Kicks who took part in the Young Buffalos International Tournament held in Swaziland last weekend, where they finished third and fourth respectively. Prisons only managed three points as they drew all their games while Kicks produced a lukewarm display as they drew one and lost two of their three games to finish with only a point.
